Nancy Shobe launched her writing career at the age of eight in Michigan when she would craft stories on her father’s drafting board, illustrate them, and then sell them door-to-door in her neighborhood for 25 cents. She has continued to professionally develop her craft by writing a travel book, co-writing a documentary film, and writing feature articles about worldwide getaways, Santa Barbara leaders, and southern California nonprofits ever since. After earning her undergraduate degree in Communications from Michigan State University, Nancy became a copywriter for an in-house advertising agency in Chicago. One serendipitous day, the “Windy City” blew her west to California where she became a special events coordinator for the Los Angeles Music Center. Stints as a marketing director for venues in the entertainment and tourism industries led to fundraising and marketing projects for a variety of educational, arts, and social service organizations throughout Santa Barbara and Los Angeles Counties. Nancy’s whirlwind adventures in and around southern California resulted in her writing the 400-page travel book, Insider’s Guide to Santa Barbara, 4th Edition (Globe Pequot Press 2008) and co-wroting the documentary film- Above Santa Barbara (2011). Nancy is known for her extensive work throughout the southern and central California travel industry. She penned collateral materials for the Santa Barbara Conference & Visitors Bureau, the Central Coast Tourism Council, the Oxnard Convention and Visitors Bureau, the San Luis Obispo Visitors and Conference Bureau and the Santa Monica Convention & Visitors Bureau. Nancy was also a columnist for the regional Coastal Woman magazine, the South Coast Beacon newspaper, and Noozhawk.com. In addition to her travel work, Nancy has published hundreds of non-fiction articles, a chapter in a book on fund raising for independent schools, and a personal essay in an international magazine. She is also a published photographer and has an avid interest in family, farming and the spiritual reward of living off and with the land.
